1980 Chevrolet K20

Deluxe Special

This K20 is a seriously special survivor, combining an unusual drivetrain with the kind of originality that has become incredibly difficult to find. It still wears its original single-stage metallic paint, which shows some of the adhesion issues these trucks were known for along the bedsides, tailgate, and roof. While most examples were eventually repainted, this truck’s original owner chose to leave it as-is, preserving an impressive amount of the truck’s original character. Having spent its entire life in Colorado, it does show a few small areas of corrosion, but the cab remains remarkably clean and rust-free.

Inside, the level of preservation continues with beautiful upholstery, original vinyl flooring, and exceptionally clean floor pans underneath. There are some age-related imperfections, including cracks in the dash, but overall the interior presents extremely well, and the gauges, HVAC, and other equipment operate as they should.

Under the hood is one of the most interesting parts of this truck: the 292ci inline-six, a particularly rare option by 1980, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The 292 runs exceptionally well and delivers plenty of low-end torque, making this K20 a great truck to drive around town. It may not be built for setting speed records, but its originality, condition, rare drivetrain, and honest character make it a standout example of a classic Chevrolet 4×4.
